Description Family Campanulaceae Garden origin Tall and stately, loud and yet brooding. The Cardinal Flower’s intricate structure, poise and late flowering season make it an invaluable addition to gardens. Rich, deep cerise trumpet-shaped blooms are held on tall spikes, each with prominent, lobed lips flaring widely at their tips. The dark, nearly black purple/maroon foliage wonderfully sets off its beautiful flower colour. Abundant and slender, pointed with a prominent midrib, they add further character to the dense clump of upright stems. Best grown in consistently damp or boggy soil and even as a pond marginal in full sun or part shade. Height and spread in 2 – 5 years: 1m x 50cm.
