Description Family Dryopteridaceae Originating from Europe Bold, vigorous and dramatic, yet soft and intricately detailed, this is possibly the largest of the finely divided Soft Shield ferns. Its rich and cheerfully bright green leaflets have a warm yellow hue and are borne on a strong rachis (central stem) which are densely covered in russet coloured scales that have the appearance of taffeta, ribbon like hairs. The tall broadly triangular shaped fronds form slowly spreading colonies of striking upright shuttlecocks of leaves, wonderfully crowded with leaflets, making a strong architectural statement. Easy to grow in any soil in shade or dappled shade. Height and spread after 2 – 5 years 1.2m x 60cm.
